They continued the brother and sister façade until suddenly; there was a new dealer. Marie gave the new dealer a chance but after two hands decided to move on. It had gone midnight by this stage of the night. Bob was still hanging around, but his friend was leaving with his wife, so Bob decided to tag along with Marie on what had been her solo adventures.
The casino had started to clear out and it wasn’t worth going to another blackjack table. Marie and Bob sat down at the roulette table and started talking. For some reason Bob was so easy to talk to. They started talking about topics that they’d never told anyone before – or at least not to someone they’d just met. They ended up moving to a couch to finish their drinks and the conversation.
“What now?” enquired Bob.
“I don’t know but I am so hungry,” stated Marie, “Let’s head downstairs.”
Downstairs everything was shut except the bar and the pokies, “Out of luck,” giggled Marie, “Perhaps there’s a taxi outside, we could go get McDonalds”.
Bob nodded and they went outside to see. It was freezing, Marie rubbed at her arms. She hadn’t brought a jacket with her. “Are you sure this is such a good idea?” asked Bob.
“Food is always a good idea,” replied Marie.
There was a taxi waiting outside so they jumped in, “where to?” queried the taxi driver.
“Into town please,” Marie responded.
“Ah I see, there is one pub still open, lock out is soon if you’re interested,” said the taxi driver.
“Oh, um, that sounds like fun, hey Bob?” teased Marie.
